The General Management Program (GMP) is a unique opportunity for already successful executives to accelerate their potential by infusing new knowledge and to prepare for new challenges ahead. The General Management Program provides a distinguished academic experience like no other. It’s an exclusive learning journey that allows participants to customize their education to their specific knowledge base and continuing career goals.

Upon completion of the program, participants will acquire more than just management skills; they will possess a richer understanding of global business, relevant strategies for growth, and new ways to apply this knowledge to propel them and their organization to success.

GMP offers participants the option to choose 4 core programs from a vast open-enrollment course list plus two elective programs. This allows participants to customize their education to complement their experience, address their current challenges and target specific goals.

Participants have the flexibility to complete their classroom education in face-to-face sessions at the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, spaced across the duration of the course over two years. The program fees include stay and the majority of meals at the Steinberg Conference Center, a 103-room full-service hotel and classroom facility on Penn’s campus.

Executive Coaching

A highlight of the General Management Program is the inclusion of executive coaching. Coaching begins on campus after participants attend their first GMP program with an introductory session to review the requirements of coaching. Participants choosing to take advantage of coaching will complete a personality assessment and a 360° tool to collect feedback from their organizations. Next, a goal-setting session will help them identify the specific outcomes they want to achieve through GMP. They will then meet with their executive coach to create a leadership development plan that both leverages their existing strengths and identifies opportunities for growth.

This leadership development plan will be tailored to each participant’s organization’s specific needs, recognizing the most valued leadership skills and traits that are necessary for them to succeed in their current role and beyond.

Coaching Structure

Participants will receive a maximum of six coaching sessions. As they work with their respective executive coaches over six sessions throughout the GMP (held in person, online, or a combination of both), they will make stronger connections between their leadership behaviors and performance.

They will also work on active behavioral modifications needed to achieve their desired outcomes and attain greater success. In a final session, participants will assess their progress and set goals for future growth and development.

Ideal For

The General Management Program is for senior-level executives, general managers, business owners and successful entrepreneurs seeking to advance their careers and become more influential within their organization.

This leadership development plan will be tailored to each participant’s organization’s specific needs, recognizing the most valued leadership skills and traits that are necessary for them to succeed in their current role and beyond.

It is designed for executives with at least 15 years of leadership experience who also meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated career achievement within chosen profession
  • Profit and loss responsibilities
  • Expansion of cross-functional and/or cross-geographical responsibilities

Course Structure & Modules

The General Management Program requires successful completion of six open-enrollment programs. They comprise 4 core programs and 2 elective programs to further personalize participants’ learning and is designed to be completed over a duration of two years. Participants may complete the GMP in only two trips to Wharton’s Philadelphia campus by enrolling in multiple programs.

Faculty Profile

Jagmohan S. Raju, PhD

Joseph J. Aresty Professor; Executive Director, Wharton Co-Sponsorship of Indian School of Business; Professor of Marketing; Vice Dean, Wharton Executive Education

An award-winning professor and internationally renowned pricing expert, Jagmohan Raju has taught extensively in Wharton’s MBA, EMBA, and Executive Education divisions. In addition to being the Vice Dean of Executive Education, Raju is also the Joseph J. Aresty Professor of Marketing and the former chairman of Wharton’s Marketing department.

His research interests include pricing, strategic alliances, new product introduction strategy, retailing, private labels, and corporate advertising. Raju has consulted extensively with multinational companies on designing pricing strategies and developing launch plans for new products.

He holds a PhD in Business, an MS in Operations Research, and an MA in Economics from Stanford University. He also has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a BTech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
